From Scratch Dense Chocolate Pound Cake That is Simple and Easy to Make!

My husband has the sweetest Maw Maw that I talk to almost daily and she is always encouraging when I need some advice. Just the other day I needed to bring something to a dinner party and once again I couldn’t decide what to bring and that’s when she suggested I take a cake! Who doesn’t like cake?

That’s when she told me that her mother in law used to make the BEST CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE!!! What?! How did I not know this or have never tasted this?! I said, “Well Maw Maw, can I have this recipe?” (crossing my fingers that she was willing to give up the most AMAZING Chocolate Pound Cake recipe ever!!!!)

Of course she did, she is the nicest and best Maw Maw there is!!! (and I am not saying that because she gave me the recipe, she truly is the best Maw Maw a girl could ask for!)

With that, she took a picture of ย the recipe with her phone and sent it to me! (Yep, she sends me text messages too, not many grandparents can do that these days!)

Chocolate Pound Cake

Bring Eggs, Milk, and Butter to room temperature.

  • Prep Time: 10m
  • Cook Time: 1h
  • Total Time: 1h 10m
  • Serves: 10

  • 3 Sticks of Butter, room temperature (extra 1/4 stick to butter the pan)
  • 1/2 c Cocoa
  • 2/3 c Sugar
  • 1 c Milk (I used 2%)
  • 3 c Flour, sifted
  • 5 Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 2 tsp. Vanilla

  1. Preheat oven to 320 degrees. Using a mixer blend butter until fluffy, then add sugar; blend well. Then add eggs one at a time while mixer is on medium speed until incorporated.
  2. In separate bowl sift flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder, salt and mix together. Add flour mixture to the liquid and mix together completely. Gradually, add milk then lastly vanilla.
  3. Butter a bundt pan with a stick of soften butter, then add pound cake batter. Bake for 1 hour.
  4. When you take it out, check to make sure it's done by inserting a tooth pick and the tooth pick should come out clean. Let the cake cool for about 5 minutes until you flip it out of the pan.
